Shasta College Students Put Their Best Paw Forward

Yesterday I got the pleasure of joining some of the students from shasta college in putting on a fundraiser for Second Chance. Some of you may have seen us in front of Raley's or you may have seen the students Thursday in front of the M&M Ranch House. These students did an amazing job and a wonderful thing for the dogs we care for. I would like to give  them a big thank you and four paws up. I enjoyed my time with them and would gladly do it again. I would also like to thank M&M for their contribution. Your kindness will not be forgotten, and to all those who donated, we wouldn't be able to make it without your help. Yesterday showed us just how many people out there appreciate what we do. Our goal is to stop the abuse and give these dogs a good temporary home until their forever home can be found. Thanks to everyone!!

A Tale of Two Little Girls

When I arrived at the shelter today I had no idea what was in store for me. Inside the shelter I found the sweetest most beautiful little dog. A sweet girl who sat in my daughters lap and begged for love. Not uncommon you might think except for one thing. This little dog had been starved almost to death. She was very much a walking skeleton. Her body was shutting down. I've seen this on TV but to see it in person broke my heart. Yes, I cried. So if you want to see how cruel people can be or what to see why your support is so important to us, stop by and ask to see Hope. Her name is what I have for her. Hope that she will have a better life, hope that she will find someone to love her.

Now outside the shelter I found another little girl. This one however had two legs not four. She was also sweet little girl. This little girl dumped her piggy bank and donated the money she had in it to Second Chance to help the dogs. She had a very large donation. To that little girl I give four paws up. You are amazing and kind. It's people like you that give us hope for dogs like Hope.

I am I bad or to old?

Walking into the shelter today was alittle depressing. Once again we are overflowing. Every pen is filled AGAIN! To make matters worse we have six puppies. Three of these puppies were dumped and left to starve and freeze. I will never understand how people can just throw away their pets. We have dogs that have great manners, dogs with marks on their necks from collars and dogs with groomed toe nails. Where are their owners? Did they just get tired of these wonderful animals or what? I am fostering little Hannah in my home and she is a sweet girl who wants nothing more than to be loved on. Where is her owner? How about Miss Molly. A ten year old beagle mix. All the years she spent in a home only to be dumped. Why? Was she to old and her owners wanted a young dog? We all get old people. My cocker spaniel was 13 years old, blind and deaf. Sadly last year she had a stroke. When I look at the big guy I have now I can't imagine life without him. He goes more places with me than my kids. I would never consider just dumping him. Maybe if people would think of these dogs not just as pets but as part of the family we wouldn't have so many dogs in need. After all you wouldn't put grandma out in the cold with no food just because you were tired of her. Or would you?
